Our daily link for Tuesday are… YES! It passed the committee! Oh, what? This will lead to the end of our country as we know it? You know, I did take Logic in college and this reaks of the slippery slope fallacy… Oh, who am I kidding, we’re digging a hole we can’t get out of And the dollar is continuing its downward spiral. Who does Barack Obama have a responsibility to first and foremost, his own country or the world? As a Libertarian I am forced to support the right of a company to make its own rules, otherwise I’d be, well, a Republican (sorry, not a Democrat) I’m... [Read the full story]

Quote for Thought I

‘Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or ill, it teaches the whole people by its example.’ -Timothy McVeigh quoting Justice Brandeis immediately prior to being sentenced to death. How can such a terrible man make such a profound statement and what are the implications? I can in no way condone the mass murder the McVeigh was responsible for, but that doesn’t mean I can’t at least try to understand. Can you? Thank you to Gore Vidal for the enlightenment and Lew Rockwell for posting it on his site. Post It: Read More →

Strategerie Over Strategy: Mexico and the War On Drugs
October 19, 2009 · Comments Off
“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it”: a cliché, certainly, but a useful and unheeded one. The United States is now fighting wars on multiple fronts: a war of diplomacy with North Korea, a war for economic hegemony with China, a war on terror in Afghanistan, and a war on drugs in Mexico. The latter is arguably the least effective that we have seen in recent years, a voracious money pit that has failed to produce positive results but succeeded in destabilizing the balance of power in Mexico, as well as provoking civil strife on a horrifying scale. It’s Operation Iraqi... [Read the full story]

Pro-Choice or Pro-Life

I find myself thinking about my position on the abortion debate after reading this article. For a long time I associated myself with the pro-life side of the abortion debate. I felt that, as unsure as we are about when exactly a person should be deemed alive, we should, if anything, err on the side of caution. Within the last few months, however, I have found myself drifting more towards the pro-choice side of the argument. Why is this? A number of reasons. First and foremost, I do not believe the right to choose extends past 3 months. If a fetus has made it a third... [Read the full story]

Why Libertarian? Part I: Introduction
October 4, 2009 · Comments Off
Why should I become a Libertarian? Many people wonder why they should become a Libertarian as opposed to a Republican or Democrat, especially in a two-party system such as the one the US currently operates under. Well, there are a number of reasons. To start with, you don’t become a Libertarian, you are or you aren’t. We all agree with and encompass Merriam Webster’s definition of the word libertarian: “A person who upholds the principles of individual liberty especially of thought and action.” Now, if that suits your ideals, then you may very well be... We have already spent $787,000,000,000 on a stimulus bill this year. That is, unless you take The Heritage Foundation’s approach. They have calculated the total cost of the stimulus bill at $3,270,000,000,000. How do they calculate this? Well, actually, they didn’t. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) requestioned...
